Our Philosophy
This Montessori program for toddlers has been created as a transition place between the home and the larger school environment. The purpose of Montessori is “to follow the children” — to provide an environment where the child may explore and discover their own success. For the two and three year old, it means every day they will have opportunity to engage with age appropriate real life tasks, which they will practice and eventually master. The result? Confidence. Confidence, security, freedom, and harmony (Maria Montessori’s recipe for world peace). Respect is the foundation of this program. Respect for oneself, others, and one’s environment. A small class size of six ensures that each child receives the loving guidance that is necessary for him or her to flourish.
About Sandra Johnson-Benning
Sandra Johnson-Benning, once a Montessori student herself, spent her golden childhood here in Colorado Springs. She began her 24+ years of experience in Montessori apprenticing with Gail Allen, a well known child and parenting specialist in Austin, TX where she assisted at The Montessori Center as well as Parkside Community School.
Along with receiving her Association Montessori International Certification in Austin, she continued a successful career teaching young children. Feeling passionate about spreading the success she had experienced in Austin, she moved to Santa Fe, NM. There Sandra headed up a toddler program at Desert Montessori School.
Once having her first child, she felt compelled to start her own school here in The Springs. Montessori Prep has served the area for over 15 years and it is here that she continues to further develop this small yet profound program, incorporating other teaching philosophies such as Waldorf, and Play-based/Experiential learning.
